Using an online data backup solution is highly recommended, because this way you will have quick access to your files from virtually anywhere in the world. At the same time, in case your disk fails, you will be able to recover the information in no time.
Backblaze is an unobtrusive macOS application designed to help you backup entire volumes by using the Backblaze online backup service, without too much user interaction. To get started, you must register for a Backblaze trial account free of charge.
Once installed on your Mac, Backblaze will place a menu in your status bar that allows you to check the backup status, to launch the process, or to restore the files (you need to go to the web interface).
At the same time, it provides quick access to the Backblaze System Preferences pane that allows you to setup the data you want to backup.
Within the Backblaze Settings panel, you must select the hard drives you want to backup, and create a backup schedule: continuously, once per day, or only when manually triggered by the user.
Note that the process starts automatically when you launch the app, so you should immediately pause the process and navigate to the settings panel to make the necessary adjustments.
Backblaze allows you to create an exclusion list, and enables you to set up your own limits when it comes to the transfer speed. However, Backblaze is able to work only with entire volumes, and does not offer you the possibility to backup only a specific folder for example. The app is also able to handle external drives.
With Backblaze, you have the opportunity to always have access to the latest version of your files and folders. Moreover, the deleted files will be retained for 30 days, which proves to be great if you have deleted a file by mistake.
Of course, Backblaze also provides various restoring options: you can download the data as a zip archive, or you can have up to 128 GB sent on a flash drive by using FedEx, or all your data on an USB drive, also sent via FedEx.
On the other hand, if you simply want to remove the data from the Backblaze servers, open the web interface and delete the current computer from your account.
