JDownloader For Mac

JDownloader is an old name when it comes to download managers, having been around since 2009. It’s always been one of the most popular options, in no small part thanks to its availability on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

As with most download managers, this app allows you to manage multiple downloads, pause and resume them, and use multiple connections to speed things up. It also has some other neat features, such as a captcha solver, automatic extractor and authentication, and support for plugins.

In short, JDownloader has all the features you can expect from a download manager, and even some you don’t normally get. You can add multiple files, or even provide a list of download links to queue them all at once.

Multiple connections can be used to increase download speed, you can set priority levels for each item, pause and resume, change URLs mid-download, and the list goes on. It’s safe to say you won’t be missing anything, even if you switch from a paid app.

JDownloader is able to rotate between multiple proxies, which helps bypass rate limits and other blocks that may be in place. It also includes an automatic captcha solver, which serves a similar purpose, but won’t work on too many websites.

If a premium account is required, or you just need a password to access a file, you can provide that information to be used automatically. It can also extract archives automatically, even if encrypted.

While Java-based apps don’t tend to look that great at the best of times, JDownloader has looked essentially the same for its entire existence, and the UI has not aged well. The bubble notifications look particularly outdated, and I couldn’t disable them quickly enough.

On the whole, this is a powerful and quite versatile download manager, particularly for batch downloads or paid hosts. It includes features that you might not even find in paid apps, but it can be a bit tricky to get the hang of things, and the interface could really use an update.
