Upload, back up and synchronize images, videos, or any other types of files using Amazon's official desktop client for the Amazon Drive. #Cloud Storage #Amazon Cloud #Photo Backup #Cloud #Storage #Amazon
Amazon's cloud storage can be a bit confusing at first. You have Amazon Drive, which covers all the files stored on the service, and Amazon Photos, which only includes—that's right—photos.
The Amazon Photos app lets you manage your storage from your desktop, and while it is mainly intended for images and videos, it can handle other types of files as well. It supports folder synchronization and automatic backups, and it is relatively easy to use.
If the app's name hasn't made it clear, it's primarily geared towards users who want to sync photos. Given that an Amazon Prime membership comes with unlimited photo storage, it's easy to see why the company is focused on making these types of files easier to handle.
You can upload images and any other file types by simply dropping them in the main UI, and the Home screen shows some basic stats about your photos, as well as the most recent ones to have been uploaded.
Amazon Photos lets you create automated backup jobs, and the process is very straightforward. Just select a folder you want to back up and where it should be placed on your cloud drive, how often changes should be uploaded, and which file types should be included (you can filter for photos, photos+videos, or just include everything).
To enable syncing, go to the app's preferences and select the folders in your cloud drive that should be synchronized. Files added to these locations will be downloaded to your desktop automatically. You can also download folders or albums directly from the main interface, but not individual files.
Amazon Photos comes with all the main features you would expect from a cloud storage desktop app. While the name might make you think otherwise, you can use it to upload, sync and backup all types of files. It is easy to use, and the additional image-related features will be great for Prime users who have unlimited photo storage.
