8tracks Radio for Mac
8tracks Radio is a free and simple to use OS X desktop client for the 8tracks online music service. It provides a compact panel on the menu bar and enables you to search for your favorite tags and play them with only a few clicks.
From the utility’s system bar window, you can search for music mixes and instantly view results in a scrollable list. The great part is that you can enter multiple tags at the same time. Various details are also displayed: thumbnail, favorite count, plays or tags, and clicking on a mix will open and play it in the same pane.
In addition to this, the main pane allows you to click on a button to switch between the search pane and playback pane. What’s more, another button provides access to a drop-down menu for choosing which mix categories to search: popular, trending or newest.
The mix pane can be regarded as a simple music player with the artwork in the background, volume controller, playback bar, elapsed / total time, progress bar, play / pause and next buttons, as well as the name of the artist and currently playing song. A great feature is the ability to pause the track by clicking on the background area.
Besides all these features, 8tracks Radio includes a handy preference pane, which can be downloaded separately, that brings support for basic playback control (play / pause and next) using your keyboard’s media buttons.
To conclude, 8tracks Radio is a reliable and highly user-friendly desktop client for the 8tracks music streaming service. The design is as minimal as it can be and finding and controlling music mixes is a breeze for any type of user.
