iMac Graphics Update For Mac

iMac Graphics Update is a standalone updater package provided by Apple and aims to fix a problem encountered by some particular iMac models running on the Yosemite 10.10.3 version.

If you are using the following iMac models, you are advised to apply this patch on your system as soon as possible: Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014; 21.5-inch, Late 2013; and 27-inch, Late 2013.

For your convenience, the iMac Graphics Update software archive comes with an installer package that handles the entire process: all you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions. Note that you must restart your computer to complete the installation.

Once this patch is applied, your iMac will not become unresponsive anymore when you are opening large JPEG image files in the Finder or in the Preview application.

If the iMac Graphics Update is not installed on your Mac, viewing large JPEG images would trigger a chain reaction: you computer becomes unresponsive, next your screen turns black, and your Mac restarts displaying a message that “your computer restarted because of a problem”.

The iMac Graphics Update comes with a standalone installer that you can easily download and install on your own, but the patch will also be available in your Mac App Store application.

To use the latter option, launch the Mac App Store app, navigate to the Updates tab, identify the iMac Graphics Update entry and  press the “Update” button. In this case, the Mac App Store takes care of everything. You get to confirm the computer restart right away, or you can postpone it to a more convenient time.
