The WebP image format is using both lossy and lossless compression to help you reduce the size of your pictures, which is essential if you are planning to integrate them into a website.

WebPonize is a small, no-nonsense macOS utility designed to help you convert your images to the WebP format and make your site run a lot faster.

To start working with the WebPonize application, all you have to do is drag and drop the files you want to optimize on top of the app’s main window. WebPonize will automatically convert them to the WebP file format, and places the output .webp file in the same directory as the source file.

Noteworthy is that WebPonize can work with multiple images at the same time: you will see them listed in the app's main window, together with the size of the original file expressed in bytes, and the size of the generated .webp file.

However, WebPonize does not help you open these files or the original photos in the Finder, and does not allow you to change the size measurement unit. Moreover, the included savings data is somehow confusing: it shows you the size of the .webp file compared to the original, and not how much space you have saved.

WebPonize comes with very few customization options, yet you do have the possibility to adjust its behavior when it comes to the image compression.

Via the app’s preferences window you can set the compression level, to activate or deactivate the lossless encoding, or choose to discard any transparency.
