The Finder is not precisely the best solution for organizing and previewing images, while iPhoto comes with a plethora of features that you might not need on a regular basis. Unbound is a stylish and well organized image manager that enables you to group your pictures by albums.

The first time you launch the application you will be prompted to set up your image library folder: the app will scan the directory and automatically import the included image files, converting the subdirectories into albums.

Unbound will continuously monitor the folder in order to make sure it reflects the latest changes.

However, take into account that the modifications made through Unbound also reflect into your system: the new albums generate new folders, the files are actually moved from one folder to the other and, upon deletion, the images are removed from your system.

Unbound’s workflow is fairly intuitive: in the main panel you can view all available albums and their thumbnails. When you open an album, the main window splits in two areas: the left side panel displays the albums list, while on the right you can see thumbnails for the included photos.

The viewer integrates social media tools so you will be able to quickly share images by email, Messages, Twitter, Facebook or Flickr. At the same time, the image library folder can be placed in your Dropbox directory: this way, any change will be automatically synced to all your devices.

Unbound was able to import over 1300 photos organized in 27 albums, even though the process took some time. The app crashed a couple of times while browsing but whenever that happens, you have the possibility to clear the settings and start over.
