UFRaw (Unidentified Flying Raw) supports most of the existing raw formats (any format supported by DCRaw). UFRaw can be used on its own or as a Gimp plug-in.

Moreover, the UFRaw command line based utility reads raw images using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility - DCRaw.

UFRaw comes with built-in support for color management workflow based on Little CMS, allowing the user to apply ICC color profiles.

For Nikon users UFRaw has the advantage that it can easily read the camera's tone curves. And, even if you do not own a Nikon, you can still apply a Nikon curve to your images.

How to install on OS X:

Although UFRaw can be installed from source, it is easier to use Homebrew. Once you've installed Homebrew on your Mac, you just have to run the following command in a Terminal window:

brew install ufraw

and then just follow the instructions displayed in the Terminal.

What's new in UFRaw 0.22:

  • Fix security issue CVE-2015-3885.
  • Removal of liblcms1 support.
  • Better Foveon support.
  • Lot of new camera support and bug fixes.
