QuickIcons For Mac

With a more than appropriate name, QuickIcons is a simple to use cross-platform application that makes it possible for you to create icons using any image from your Mac’s hard-drive.

More specifically, QuickIcons enables you to create icons from your images for both desktop platforms, namely OS X and Windows, and for mobile platforms such as iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, in all their supported icon formats.

As is the case with all applications, the first thing you will notice is the interface, and, while not the prettiest of them all and certainly not even remotely close to how an OS X app should look like, it does feature an intuitive layout.

This said, working with QuickIcons will prove to be one of the simplest of tasks, as you only have to drag and drop any 1024 x 1024 image from the Finder directly onto its interface, select the operating system by clicking the sprocket shaped button at the top, click “Save…”, choose the destination for the icon, and you’re all set.

Not only this, as QuickIcons also makes it possible for you to add some fine visual effects and final touches to your icons: you can choose from a couple of effects suggestively named Top Glossy, Center Glossy, Volume, Frame, Rounded Edges and Lite Label and Free Label.

Yes, the app works well and yes, it is very easy to use, yet we can’t but point out that you are limited to load only pictures with 1024 x 2014 resolutions. In this case, support for other resolutions or, even better, an integrated cropping tool would have made the QuickIcons a much better app.

Taking all of the above into consideration, while not the most stylish of all apps, QuickIcons with its compact interface and simple workflow makes it very easy for you to create icons for OS X, Windows, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry with no more than a few mouse clicks.
