Pixen for Mac
Pixen is a lightweight and user-friendly pixel art editor that enables pixel artists to design and work with low-resolution raster art similar to the 8-bit sprites featured in old-school video games.
Clean and intuitive interface
Pixen comes with a simple and user-oriented interface that provides quick and easy access to basic image editing tools, a built-in color palette system and other useful tools. What is more, Pixen allows you to create frame-by-frame animations and export your work to animated GIF files.
As follows, you can create and sort image frames in filmstrip view, piece them together and obtain the desired animation. Pixen also allows you to save your animation as a PXA file that you can share with other Pixen users.
Left and Right tool panel
While shaping and designing your work you can take advantage of Pixen’s wide variety of tools that range from pencil, eyedropper, eraser, zoom and magic wand to move, lasso, selection, line, ellipse and rectangle.
The great thing about Pixen is that you can assign a different tool to the left and right mouse button. Hence, you can use the pencil while pressing the left button and the eraser while pressing the right button.
Layer based editor
You can easily improve your drawing experience and take advantage of the flexibility provided by the layers as you start creating complex pixel art. Moreover, you can add and organize your frequently used colors into user-definable palettes.
On top of that, you can create personalized patters that you can later use while drawing using the pencil, line or eraser. The canvas can be set to flat, checkered or a custom image onto which you can start drawing.
Built-in Preview window
Thanks to the grid and crosshair you can precisely place pixels in the desired spot and use the Preview window to view the canvas when working at high zoom levels or to playback animations before exporting them.
It is worth mentioning that Pixen features support for pressure-sensitive drawing tables, maps pressure for color opacity. You can even use Pixen in full screen mode and assign various keys to most used tools.
