PNG optimization solution that combines multiple compression algorithms in order to reduce the size of the image file without compromising too much on quality. #PNG optimizer #Optimize PNG #Compress PNG #PNG #Optimizer #Optimize
Crunch is a PNG optimization tool designed to help you reduce the file size while preserving the image quality. Worth mentioning is that Crunch applies multiple compression algorithms, and the encoding process might take some time.
The Crunch user interface is represented by a single window on top of which you must drag and drop the PNG images you want to process.
The same Crunch window will display the activity log, and you can press the “Cancel” button placed in the bottom right corner at any time if you want to stop the process.
The Crunch utility has no customization options, but you do get to use the Finder menu to load files, and you can import multiple files at the same time.
However, Crunch will not process them at the same time: you can see in the activity log what image is currently being processed and statistical data about the output in each case.
Crunch employs the zopflu DEFLATE algorithms to automatically adjusts the image’s bit depth or the color type and palette. It also integrates the pngquant and zopflippng optimization tools.
As a result, the PNG file’s size is reduced, and you get to see it compared with the original, together with details about how much space has been saved.
Note that Crunch does not tamper with the original files: the processed images are saved to a new file in the same directory, and you can easily differentiate between them thanks to the crunch suffix that is being added to the file name by default.
Crunch does manage to reduce the size of the PNG files and help you save storage space, and even though the picture's quality is decreased, the differences are imperceptible in most cases.
Nonetheless, depending on the picture, the optimized output might not be satisfactory: since Crunch does not tamper with the source image file, you can easily go back to the original.
