Classic Color Meter For Mac

Classic Color Meter is an alternative to the DigitalColor Meter application included with macOS. This application aims to bring back the old functionality of DigitalColor Meter from Mac OS X 10.6 plus a number of extra handy functions, such as new display modes, commands and preferences.

Aside from the added functions in the user interface, the utility looks the same as Apple’s counterpart. As you may know, DigitalColor Meter works by magnifying the pixels under your mouse cursor and displaying their color values. The zoom level and display values can be adjusted.

Among the new display modes that come with Classic Color Meter, we can name RGB decimal, RGB hexadecimal, RGB percentage, Hue / Saturation / Lightness (HSL), Hue / Saturation / Brightness (HSB), CIE 1931, CIE 1976, CIE LAB and Y'PbPr and Y'CbCr values.

The new commands are quite a few: show / hide cursor coordinates, adjust aperture size, adjust magnification, lock cursor position, update preview continuously, paste text as color, save or copy preview image and hold the current color.

The part that makes Classic Color Meter really shine, though, is the customization options. From the Preferences window, you can assign hotkeys for various commands (hold color, lock position, activate app and more), adjust several conversion settings, choose the aperture color and toggle a number of app behavior options.

In short, Classic Color Meter is a suitable replacement for OS X’s integrated DigitalColor Meter app. It restores the functionality it had in Snow Leopard and brings its own touches. The app offers greater flexibility than DigitalColor Meter and optimizes color picking on your Mac.
