Computer-aided design is an essential part of any modern production process. Moreover, with the widespread of 3D printing devices, more or less experienced designers have started developing more and more complex objects.
Antimony is a CAD tool for OS X that enables you to combine 2D and 3D geometrical figures using different techniques in order to create simple or complex designs. The app’s workflow is quite straightforward while the user imagination plays a rather important role.
The Antimony user interface is represented by the Graph window where you can draw objects and connect nodes, the View panel where you can preview the results, and the Quad window where you can see the object from 4 angles at the same time.
Antimony enables you to create both 2D and 3D geometrical figures and allows you to apply CSG techniques to create complex surfaces. The utility will create a new module for each geometrical figure, technique or effect: it is up to the user to create connections between nodes.
In the Antimony view window, the app’s geometry engine renders the graphics and enables you to view them from various angles. Most importantly, any change is applied to the graphic in real time.
Since Antimony comes with support for various types of transformations (rotate, scales, attract, repel, bend, and so on), you can experiment with them and observe the results right away.
To conclude, Antimony provides an alternative approach to making CAD designs, allowing you to work with basic geometrical figures and various transformations to create complex objects.
The designs can be exported to .STL heightmaps and used for 3D printing, or to PNG image files for easy sharing. Note that on the developer's web page you can find an excellent video tutorial on how to get started.
What's new in Antimony 0.9.3 Beta:
