Advanced Photo is a straightforward and open-source OS X application that provides you with all the necessary tools and features to view, resize, and rotate your photos.
Not only this, but Advanced Photo can also help you to mirror flip your images, as well as view them with the help of a slideshow feature.
The application comes with a simplistic user interface and, despite the fact that it has nothing in common with OS X’s native looks, it makes working with Advanced Photo quite easy. Of course, to load pictures into Advanced Photo, you must drag and drop the files from the Finder onto its interface.
Advanced Photo’s interface comes with a top toolbar, a viewing panel in the middle and an information bar on the bottom. The app’s top toolbar gathers most of the app’s main functions and it enables you to open images, zoom in and out, rotate pictures, enter the full-screen mode, and move to a previous or the next picture.
For the remaining features, you will simply have to access Advanced Photo’s menu, more specifically, the Photo menu. From within the Photo menu, you will be able to resize, or flip horizontally and vertically your pictures.
As expected, you can use your Mac’s keyboard for certain operations like zooming, resizing your photos (CMD + R), and getting through them. By clicking the “i” button from the top toolbar, you can view detailed info about your photo, such as its name, directory, size, type, dimensions and its date of creation.
To be honest, there’s really nothing wrong with Advanced Photo, but it does have one big problem: the fact that OS X comes with the Preview app. Unfortunately, Advanced Photo doesn’t provide any new functionality when compared to OS X's default image viewer, a fact that renders it somewhat pointless.
If you are bored with the Preview app and you’re keen on having a different photo viewer with basic editing capabilities on your Mac, then it might just as well be Advanced Photo.
