    mariosudoku description

A simple yet addictive Sudoku game

mariosudoku's only hidden feature is that if you press the option key and then move the mouse pointer over button undo its label changes to replay and you can repeat the game from the beginning.

The level of difficulty of the sudoku is set by the number of revealed tiles you choose from its pop up menu. The more tiles you show the easier the game obviously gets.

You may click on any tile, revealed or empty to change/enter a number 1 to 9 even those revealed automatically and therefore right in my solution. There might be more than 1 solution to a sudoku and I have solved the game in a different way than the one created originally.

You may select to have row and column highlighted for you or a square to help you work out possible numbers. In assisted mode, when button assist ticked, as you hover over empty tiles they will show you all the possible numbers for that spot, one at a time. Possible numbers are those not in that column, row or square only.

Your cursor will be hidden and the tile will change colour. When all possible numbers have displayed then the tile will flash, return to its original colour, and the pointer will reappear. As you click on that tile a dialog box is displayed to allow you to enter a number. In that dialog window you are reminded again of all possible numbers for that spot.

If there is only 1 possible number for that spot then that number is also entered for you in the text entry field and selected. This helps fast players to just hit enter or return to accept that choice. You may change that number if you wish. At present you may not work in assisted mode and have rows or square highlited.

Hint gives you one right clue. It shows you a number in a randomly chosen unfilled spot and mario'sudoku will remember that you have asked for a hint.

Check reports on how you do, hints auto-solutions and mistakes you are currently making according to my creation of that sudoku. Remember you might still be right and you might be able to solve the sudoku in an alternative way.

    Undo and redo are unlimited.

Solve reveals all tiles according to you my solution. (that might not necessarily be yours). Undo returns you to where you were before but mario'sudoku will remember that you have auto-solved it.

If you save mario'sudoku will create a file called mario'sudoku prefs in its folder (directory). mario'sudoku will read it at start up and set up accordingly. Remove it and on your next restart you'll get back to a default (no tiles revealed) screen. Save and another file will be written.

Should a box pop up saying something went wrong, please type what you were doing when it happened in the main field and either email it to me from the provided button or save it to disk and email it to me later at the address below. Quit mario'sudoku and then restart it.

You will be contributing to make a better mario'sudoku.

Thanks for trying it and for all your help!

What's New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]

    New/Changed things in this version:
    · Tiles always revert to original state (white) when the mouse is moved out of them
    · Save now works properly and added menu File:Save to allow for user wanting to save manually when game is created but before it is started
    · Added menu File:revert to saved to quickly restart game from last save. Revert to saved differs from Replay this sudoku which restarts the game from scratch.
    · Changed some shortcut command keys in menu items.
