RegattaX is a pair of games for Mac OS X, bringing to the Mac the classic dice game Yacht, plus a new, exciting variation called Regatta.
Yacht is an old game played with five dice (numbered from one to six). Players take turns trying to score points each turn by rolling the dice up to three times, saving whichever dice they wish between throws, and scoring the category that suits the dice and the situation best.
Regatta is a fancy cousin of the classic game. Instead of having simple dice from one to six, the numbers additionally have suits, similar to playing cards. Between the six ranks (one through six) and the five suits (clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, moons), there are thirty different ways every die can appear after every throw.
Other than that, Regatta works just like Yacht. Five dice, three throws, scoring as many points as possible in a list of categories.
There's a lot of luck in the game, so sometimes in RegattaX the goal ends up being just trying to beat the computer this time, and sometimes the goal will be to beat one's all time high scores! It all comes down to the rolls of the dice.
The two games included in the RegattaX package, Yacht and Regatta, are easy to play and lots of fun.
Limitations:
· The demo includes lets you start either variant and play five turns, in order to get a feel for how they work.
