Growly Rummy is a twist on the most common rummy games (though a variant of our game was once one of the most popular card games).
There are exactly seven hands in the game, and every hand is different. On each hand you’re dealt one card more than the hand before, running from 6 cards through 12. In each hand you must get a specific combination of three (or more) of a kind and runs of 4 (or more) in the same suit.
Growly Rummy is designed to help you keep track of the required combinations, but wait — there’s more! Every time the top discard changes, anyone can grab it. If it’s not your turn when you grab the discard, you take a penalty of two cards. (This is sometimes a blessing and sometimes a curse.) You can also steal jokers that have already been played, in order to make your own combinations.
On the last hand you must lay down every card in your hand, leaving one for the discard.
Yes, it’s complicated, but it’s sure a lot of fun. You play against three computer players, and they alternate between unnaturally lucky and unbelievably stupid, so you have a good chance of winning.
