iSnake is a variation on the classic snake game theme, an OS X port of the old mono-chrome snake games, that brings a couple of additions to the table in order to make it more fun to play and significantly more entertaining.

In fewer words, iSnake’s Classic mode manages to recreate the snake experience one would have if he would play it on a monochrome mobile phone, 10 years ago.

Likewise, iSnake’s Extreme mode, despite the fact that it doesn’t bring anything spectacularly innovative to the table apart from the power-ups that will make your worm move insanely fast or transform it into a downright indestructible beast, stands out mainly because of the elegant interface, surprisingly fluid animation and old-school gameplay.

Aside from the beautiful looking interface and responsive controls, iSnake also features an 8-bit music soundtrack that will most definitely bring back lots of memories to all gamers that used to play on consoles in the 90s.

Nevertheless, the iSnake game does have a small downside: it does not allow its players to pause the game in order to take care of some urgent task. If you’ve started a game, you better make sure that there’s nothing to interrupt you or else you can kiss a high score good bye in no time.

In conclusion, iSnake manages to take an old classic like the snake game and twist in on its tail in order to offer players a modern and pleasurable experience. All told, it’s well worth its price and the time spent playing it.
