Artifact is a fast paced arcade game with a very old-school feel in which you have to take on the role of Larry Lodestone and shut down an electric core of some sorts.

On your long journey towards the core, you will encounter round orbs that were created by the malfunctioning core.

The goal of the game is quite straightforward: in order get at the core and shut it down, you must first step by step, over 40 levels, stop the random orbs from reconstructing the matrix of The Artifact.

In order to achieve that and because the orbs can’t physically be destroyed, the only viable way is to isolate them is by literally cutting the playing field with the help of your dual-direction Welding Blaster. The end-point here is to make sure that you cut at least 75% percent of the playing field with your blaster without having reached critical damage.

As easy as it may seem at first, you must be careful not to hit the orbs with the fired welding beam, as they will create a powerful back-surge that can potentially destroy your “welder”. To spice things up a bit, you can use your welder beam to break the special containers and inherit the useful powers within.

What’s more, you can also activate magnetic fields and hyper beams, or you can combine them into one most-powerful weapon, namely the Annihilator shield that will be a life saver in the later levels as it enables you to swiftly and painlessly destroy orbs.

While at first glance, the Artifact game might appear as lacking a little salt and pepper, we were quite surprised of how good it actually is at keeping you focused and engaged, as it involves a great deal of concentration, precision, and strategical resource management, a combination that’s maybe a little forgotten in most of the games nowadays.
