World Book Dictionary For Mac

World Book Dictionary is a comprehensive and feature rich Mac OS X dictionary with no more than 240.000 entries. The dictionary aims to provide a more inclusive solution than OS X’s built-in dictionary and to offer many more features for fast language learning.

The World Book Dictionary was created by the editors of the popular World Book Encyclopedia and is designed for students, teachers, parents, native or non-English speaking users and anyone else.

The application comes with quite a good number of features that will make learning the English vocabulary easier and more pleasurable. First of all you can click on any word in a definition to find out its meaning in a new window.

World Book Dictionary keeps the history of searched items in an accessible window. This way, you can check words again if you’ve forgotten their meaning with just two clicks.

An additional feature is the automatic pronunciation of words. In brief, the app will read out loud searched words in a robot voice as soon as you click on them. This option can be configured from the Preferences window. What’s even better, it can also speak the whole definition of any word.

To distinguish the words in a definition more clearly, users can choose different colors for a specific set of word types in the sentence. For instance, antonyms can be green and synonyms can be yellow.

Comparing word definitions is also a possibility. By opening definitions in separate windows, you can position them closely and check two or more definitions at the same time.

Another advantage of using World Book Dictionary is that it provides a list of words with similar structure, as well as a list of related entries, which are organized into different categories: “similar words”, “exact matches”, “found in examples” and “found in definitions”.
