Oxford Dictionary of English For Mac

Oxford Dictionary of English is a straightforward Mac version of the renowned Oxford monolingual dictionary of the English language. This version was last revised and updated in 2010 and includes most of the new words that were born that year.

The Oxford Dictionary of English application provides an impressive number of word definitions; you can gain access to 350.000 words, meanings and phrases, 75.000 high-quality audio pronunciations and phonetic alphabet for all words, 67.000 usage examples, 11 000 encyclopedic definitions, as well as 550 usage notes.

Oxford Dictionary of English’s user interface and features are not as impressive. The main window is intuitive and consists of a search bar, back / forward navigation buttons, a panel that lists all words and, of course, the explanation area.

In spite of the plain-looking interface, most word entries include color-coded formats that are determined based on the word’s function. For instance, the usage examples are light-green and italicized, and the usage notes are displayed in a yellow rectangle.

Feature-wise, the Oxford Dictionary of English provides the ability to bookmark favorite words, search in patterns or full text, view suggestions for spelling and offers a feature to lookup words in other Mac applications.

To sum it all up, Oxford Dictionary of English might not actually be the most comprehensive electronic dictionary for macOS, but it still includes a large number of words and meanings.

Even though the GUI is not that impressive, the Oxford Dictionary of English app is actually easy to navigate and highly responsive because it works offline.
