OsmondCocoa For Mac

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are used to connect various electronic elements by using a single sided layer, double sided layers or multiple layers. OsmondCocoa is a simple Mac app that can help you design them before starting to build the actual circuit board.

The main area of the OsmondCocoa main window is reserved for the PCB canvas, while the top toolbar provides buttons for basic tools: select, zoom, rotate, select and connect signals, swap signals, attach traces, add pegs to a trace, wrap traces around pegs or pads, draw freehand traces, add text content, create pins, add elements from a library, and more.

Each time you start a new project, you have the opportunity to specify how many layers you want to use, the working areas’ width / height / margin, the outer layer trace width, the inner layer trace width, the outer layer spacing, the inner layer spacing, and the solder mask ring. All these values can be expressed in mil (a thousand of an inch) or in millimeters.

OsmondCocoa is a able to provide major and minor grids (the app comes with a collection of predefined templates, but you can easily define your own) to help you guide yourself when creating new designs.

At the same time, you get to import PDF documents as background images for your projects: this is very helpful if you need to retrace specific models, for example.

To make your job easier, OsmondCocoa comes with a Parts Editor where you can easily define new elements by providing them a name, a size, and a design.

This way, the next time when you need to add a specific item to your PCB, simply navigate the parts library, and then drag an drop the design on top of your canvas.
