Orbit is an easy to use and lightweight application for the Mac that enables you to release your inner astronomer by providing you with a suitable environment for simulating positions and orbits of celestial bodies.
Orbit is aimed at both professional and amateur astronomers alike, and takes on a direct and simple approach for planetary orbits simulation.
User-friendliness is the expression that best describes this application and this fact becomes evidently once you start it up and discover a streamlined interface represented by a top toolbar, a big preview panel in the middle of its main window, and a bottom toolbar.
Orbit’s toolbar makes it easy for you to choose the starting date for the orbit simulations, the celestial objects that need to be studied and the view (either 2D or 3D). Within the same toolbar you can also enable the axis display, add and remove celestial objects, as well as access the app’s Settings menu.
In order to start working with Orbit, you must simply specify a starting date for orbit tracking, select the object that needs to be tracked, and click the “Start” button from the bottom toolbar’s left side.
What’s more, Orbits bundles eight main planets from our solar system for which you can simulate orbits or graph their position. By clicking the “Planet Info” button from bottom toolbar, you are quickly provided with accurate and detailed information regarding each one of the eight default planets.
Taking all things into consideration, Orbit might just be the software solution you are looking for, if you are looking for a small and simple to use OS X application, with a small memory footprint, that helps you simulate and track planet orbits.
