On May 21th 2013, Microsoft announced and, soon after, launched the Xbox One, the successor for the Xbox 360 gaming console. Besides the platform’s obvious improvements, it also came with a new and redesigned controller.
Console and PC gaming fans have all the reasons to drool when it comes to Xbox One Wireless Controller’s 40 improvements over the Xbox 360 controller, an already a good controller on its own.
The Xbox One Controller has new vibration motors, it’s more precise and more comfortable than its predecessor, therefore, you don’t have to be a console fan-boy to want to take advantage of its capabilities.
Xbox One Controller Enabler is a simple and streamlined application created with a simple mission in mind: to enable OS X gamers to use the Xbox One Controller with their Macs.
In essence, the Xbox One Controller Enabler utility communicates with the controller itself and uses the Apple IOKit framework to simulate a virtual controller.
Currently being in its beta stage of development, you will only have access to basic features without many customizability options, but we can only hope that additional capabilities will be implemented in the future.
A thing that concerns OS X 10.10 Yosemite users is the fact that in order to get extended compatibility, they will need to enable the kext-dev-mode boot argument. This can be achieved by running the following command in the Terminal app: sudo nvram boot-args=kext-dev-mode=1
Taking all things into consideration, much can be said about this interesting app, but the bottom line is that Xbox One Controller Enabler is a must-have utility for OS X gamers that want to use one of the best console controllers on the market for playing games on their Macs.
