Simple Hg Server is a lightweight OS X app that enables you to create and run an Hg / Mercurial service on your Mac in just a few simple steps. The entire setup process takes well under a minute, and you can use this utility to add, remove and manage repositories.

It should be noted that authentication is not possible in Simple Hg Server and, as a result, all pulls/pushes are anonymous. It is therefore recommended that this service is run on a local network, where the server can only be accessed by known users.

Once you have installed and launched Simple Hg Server, all you need to do is specify the location of the server root, the directory that contains all the Hg repositories to be published.

You can then create said repositories and organize them into folders. They can be opened in Finder from within the app’s interface whenever you want to add or remove any items.

Simple Hg Server supports the http:// protocol and, by default, listens on port 8000, although you can modify this setting at any time.

You can specify whether remote computers should be allowed to connect to the server, as well as permit or block push operations.

Simple Hg Server adds an icon to your Mac’s menu bar, from where you can easily start or stop the service, as well as access the Preferences pane. The icon’s appearance changes depending on the current status of the server.

Of course, you can disable this function if you find it is not necessary, as well as prevent the app from being displayed in the Dock. This way, the service can run in the background without interfering with your work.

In conclusion, Simple Hg Server is a good choice for those who want to setup and run a Mercurial service on a local network with very little effort.

What's new in Simple Hg Server 1.1:
