JSON (short for JavaScript Object Notation) represents a way to store and organize data, and it is used for transmitting data objects and values between servers and websites (or web applications).
Besides using XML and RSS feeds, some websites share data using JSON because it provides feeds that can be loaded faster.
Serialization is a process that helps convert an object into certain chunks of data in order to send it to a database, a memory, or a file. In spite of its advantages, serialization doesn’t work well when used with large objects because it does not offer any transfer control, and, using it with apps that need concurrent access is also not recommended.
To get to the point of the matter, JSON Query, as its names clearly suggests, is a straightforward OS X application that enables you to effortlessly query JSON data structures without the need of serialization.
Moreover, finding your way around is quite easy because JSON Query has a simple user interface with a top URL bar, a JSON loading panel in the left side, a Results panel in the right side, and a Query field in the bottom area of its main window.
In order to get started with JSON Query, you must paste the JSON body on the left side of its main window, add queries in the lower part, and then, results will be displayed in the Results panel.
The JSON Query application provides you with the possibility to effortlessly load JSON directly from URLs. Once the JSON data structure is loaded onto the app’s interface, you can easily use common search syntax to find data via keys or values.
By clicking the “Advanced…” button, you will be able to specify the headers by designating keys and their values, as well as JSON body requests.
Because JSON is starting to be a more and more important part of any developer’s tool collection, JSON Query is a must-have application for anyone who needs to query JSON database structures.
