CompareMerge For Mac

CompareMerge is an intuitive macOS app that promises to help you analyze the differences between two folders or text files, and, if needed, to merge the actual differences found.

Apart from the striking resemblance in looks and functionality between CompareMerge and FileMerge, Apple’s default file comparison tool, CompareMerge seems to have two features that Apple’s utility does not feature: the capability to compare folders and to merge the differences found within the other file / folder.

As a comparison app, when dealing with files. CompareMerge works pretty much as you would expect if you’ve ever used FileMerge before: it displays them one next to the other in the same window and highlights all the differences using colors.

The thing that makes it worth trying though is the merging feature, which will allow you to swiftly add anything that’s changed in either the left or right panel to the other file, with a simple mouse click.

In the text file comparison mode, CompareMerge will also provide you with yet another useful feature: an inline editor that makes it painless to add content to any of the loaded files, right within the comparison window.

Comparing two folders is the other extra tool that CompareMerge comes with, a tool that makes it quite simple to get a quick overview of all the differences between two folders of your choice.

CompareMerge displays the files contained in both folders in the same list and it stamps them with a “Left only”, “Right only”, “Files are identical” or “Files are different” result to let you know exactly where each can be found and if it has as counterpart in the other folder.

If the two folders that you want to compare also have sub-folders that you would wish to analyze, CompareMerge makes it possible to add them to the comparison operation and, thus, allowing you to effectively compare all files in all folder levels in one go.

To sum it all up, in spite of the fact that CompareMerge has a lot in common with Apple’s FileMerge app, it still manages to bring enough extra features to the table to justify its Mac App Store price tag.
