Apache HBase For Mac

Apache HBase is an open-source, scalable, distributed database for storing and accessing Big Data. It is intended for large quantities of data, while providing consistent reads and writes. It offers linear and modular scalability, and it is modeled after Google’s Bigtable. It offers capabilities similar to Bigtable in addition to Hadoop and HDFS.

HBase is a NoSQL, distributed database, with features to support linear and modular scaling. Because of this, it is primarily suitable for situations where you need to store very large quantities of data. Otherwise, a RDBMS may be better suited. It also lacks some of the features available in an RDBMS, and it can’t be directly ported.

As opposed to HDFS, which is a distributed file system useful for storing very large files but does not support fast individual record lookups in files, HBase provides fast record lookups for large tables.

Among other noteworthy features, HBase offers automatic and configurable sharding of tables, failover support between RegionServers, base classes for backing Hadoop MapReduce jobs with HBase tables, a Java API for client access, an extensible jruby-based shell, Block cache and Bloom Filters for real-time queries, and support for exporting metrics via the Hadoop subsystem.
