Forecast Bar For Mac

The Weather widget you can add to your Mac's notification area is certainly handy, but it doesn't provide you with a lot of information. If you want more data, as well as additional features, you have no choice but to find a third-party app.

Forecast Bar is one of the better options out there, and it is primarily aimed at users who want very accurate and detailed forecasts. It can show pretty much any type of weather-related information, and it offers a host of customization options, both visual and feature-related.

Once you've installed the app, you still have a few more steps to go through before you can start using it. While you can skip most of them and configure everything later, it is best to get it out of the way as soon as possible.

First of all, you should choose where the app should be displayed – in the menu bar or dock. We find the former to be preferable, both visually and when it comes to ease of use. Next, you can customize the size of the forecast bar, the type of data to be displayed and much more.

There is little weather information that Forecast Bar doesn't show. It includes temperature, precipitation, wind, pressure, humidity, visibility, UV index, sunrise/sunset times and even moon phases. It can even open a radar map from The Weather Channel directly from the menu bar.

The forecast itself can be personalized to suit your preferences. You specify which type of data should be displayed and how it should appear, as well as select the information to be included in the summary.

If you're not interested in the specifics, you can just have the app show you basic weather info. If you're a bit of a nerd, however, you can see every bit of interesting data right in your menu bar. Just be prepared to spend a bit of time setting things up.

In addition to this Mac app, the developer has also created apps for iOS and tvOS. You can connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac and send the current temperature to the device as an icon badge, forward precipitation alerts to the iOS app and sync settings across devices.

Forecast Bar comes with about as many features as you can expect from a weather app designed for average users, and they are packed into a very intuitive UI. However, it is worth noting that most features are only available with a subscription, without which a simpler app would probably be a better choice.
