Flaphone For Mac

Flaphone is an Adobe Air-based application that can be used to make calls from your Mac and only requires that you provide the details for your SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) account.

To call another Flaphone user, you only have to insert their login name and press the dial button. Other people can contact you in the same manner, but you can also be called via SIP. Flaphone supports instant messaging, and users can view each other’s status, but only if IP numbers have been provided.

Before making calls to mobile or landline phones, you need to have a valid SIP account and enter the required information, which should be supplied by your provider. The application does not limit you to a single account, and you can view some general details about each of them in the ‘SIP accounts’ menu.

Flaphone supports SIP-to-Flash, Flash-to-SIP and Flash-to-Flash video calls, and you can select the desired video recording device from the ‘Settings’ menu.

You can configure the application’s audio settings if you wish to change the default sound recording device, modify Flash settings or test your current configuration.

The user interface is somewhat outdated but simple enough for novices to get the hang of things without too much effort. It is styled after an old-school mobile phone, with a side panel that provides access to your call history, SIP accounts, the CallMe widget, profiles and the Settings menu.

Your contacts can be assigned a home, office, mobile or IP number. Keeping everything organized should not be an issue, as you can arrange contacts into multiple groups and move existing ones easily.
