Organize your ideas on a virtual board, create connections between notes, and arrange them to sort out your thoughts in a visual manner. #Virtual Canvas #Virtual Whiteboard #Note Organizer #Canvas #Whiteboard #Note
Save for a few special individuals, most of us are limited to focusing on only one or two things at a time, and everything else is put on hold in the meantime. Unfortunately, that can lead to important ideas being left behind and forgotten.
Scapple is a macOS app meant to serve as a virtual notepad or whiteboard, giving you the same freedom you would have when writing down or drawing something in real life. It lets you arrange and rearrange notes, style them in various ways, make and remove connections, and much more.
One nice thing is that you don’t have to plan anything out before putting it on the board. Just like in a brainstorming session, you can write every idea or task you may need to use or remember, and then figure out what to do with them later.
Any note can be moved freely and reformatted in any way you wish. Creating connections is as simple as dropping one note on top of another, and you can use various modifiers to create different types of connections. To remove them, just drop a note onto the other once again.
Aside from making connections, you can stack and align multiple notes that were strewn about randomly, or even place them all inside a background shape. Multiple shapes can also be connected to one another.
Each note can have its own border and background color, just like the shapes, you can label connections, align notes inside shapes, use different types of borders, and so on. With all these tools at your disposal, keeping things organized should be easy.
Another cool feature allows you to add graphics from images or PDF files, as well as content from documents, just by dragging them onto the canvas. You can then move them around and resize them, and text can be formatted into multiple notes on import.
Overall, Scapple is a very useful tool for anyone in need of a simple yet versatile canvas where they can organize their ideas. It’s not what we would call cheap, but you can try it out beforehand to make sure it’s worth the money.
What's new in Scapple 1.4.2:
- macOS 13 “Ventura” Compatibility:
- Override SVG drag and drop in macOS 13 to use previous behaviour of substituting a file link for the image. SVG support in macOS seems to be in an early and buggy state, so we will revisit adding native support for SVG images on the board at a future date.
- Testing has been done against the updated text editing frameworks introduced in macOS 13.
