Store contacts securely on your Mac, in an encrypted database that can be kept away from prying eyes, using this simple macOS app. #Store contact #Contact database #Contact manager #Contact #Database #Pim
Apple provides a built-in utility for managing your contacts, but it isn’t exactly complex, and it can’t be secured with a password. If you need additional features, a third-party solution is the answer.
Private Contact is a self-explanatory name for an app designed to keep your contact information confidential and protect your privacy. In addition to that, it makes it easier to sort through your contacts and find relevant details.
First things first, you’ll need to provide a password to secure your first database. Multiple databases can be created and protected with different keys. They are saved as encrypted documents and can be loaded easily.
You can lock the document at any time to render the information inaccessible. The system is fairly straightforward, and AES-256 encryption is used to secure your data.
Once your document is set up and secure, you can start adding data. Any kind of relevant information can be added to each contact entry, and you can also import data from existing databases or text files.
Each entry can be placed in a certain category, which will make it easier to tell them apart at a glance. The category will be displayed on the left, next to the contact’s name, and you can sort the list by name or category.
All labels can be customized freely, making the app quite versatile should you need to enter a specific type of data. Buttons are available for entries that can be opened in a browser or dedicated app, such as websites and email addresses.
The filtering function is decent, if somewhat basic. It will filter all entries by certain strings, wherever they may be found in the contact sheets.
Private Contact is definitely an upgrade over the Apple Contacts app, offering more features and the option to encrypt your data. The only thing it may benefit from is filtering options for specific labels, which would make it easier to sort through a large database.
