A purpose-built journal app allows you to record your thoughts and find previous entries with ease, whereas a classic notes app or a text editor would make everything hopelessly confusing.

Mémoires features a minimalistic design and provides you with a convenient way to store journal entries, notes, or whatever else you may need to write down, using a calendar to organize them.

You’ll find the calendar on the left, with the selected day’s entries just below it. When you select one, its contents will be displayed on the right. This straightforward layout is easy to navigate and intuitive.

Each day can have multiple entries, which you are able to identify using titles and color tags. You can then filter all available entries using these tags, or just rely on the search function. Custom tags are not available.

To add an image to accompany your text, just drop it in the main window. If it’s a larger picture, it will be resized automatically to fit in the window. You can then use markup tools to highlight items or write text.

A quick sketch can tell a story better than words, and Mémoires lets you create one from scratch. You can draw freehand using a simple brush and a few color options, and then insert the drawing into a journal entry as an image.

You can create multiple journals, and they are saved as simple files on your local drive. Nothing is uploaded to cloud storage. Individual entries or entire journals can also be exported to various formats.

For enhanced privacy, you also have the option of protecting them with a password. You’ll be asked to provide this key whenever you want to open the encrypted journal.

All told, Mémoires is an excellent journal app for anyone looking to write down and organize their thoughts. The diary format makes it easy to recall previous events, and it offers lots of tools to help you add more detail to your entries.
