Bluetooth Screen Lock for Mac
Leaving your computer’s desktop accessible to anyone is not a good idea: your important projects might get ruined or you could lose sensitive information.
Locking your screen can be achieved by using system tools in multiple ways, but if you want to automatically lock it each time you leave without even thinking about it, Bluetooth Screen Lock might be the solution for you.
Bluetooth Screen Lock is based on a connection made between your Mac and any Bluetooth enabled device you might be carrying with you at all times. The app is analyzing the signal strength and, if it drops under a certain level, it will automatically lock the screen.
Note that you must first pair the device with your Mac and it must be selected in the Bluetooth Screen Lock Preferences window. In addition, after you make the necessary adjustments, you must close the Preferences window and relaunch the app for everything to work properly.
Bluetooth Screen Lock displays the signal strength and allows you to adjust the activation level through a simple slide bar. At the same time, you can choose to set up a delay period to avoid unnecessary lockups.
However, Bluetooth Screen Lock also offers you the possibility to lock the screen by using a hotkey (Option + Command + L) or via the status bar menu. This is useful if you do not have a Bluetooth device. The downside is that you must remember to activate the lock.
When locked, your Mac will display a grey screen. If you want to access your computer you must select your user account and input the password. Take into account that Bluetooth Screen Lock will not automatically unlock the Mac when the Bluetooth device comes back in range: you must do that manually.
All in all, the Bluetooth Screen Lock minimalist status bar menu does what it says and will not impose the use of a Bluetooth device (keeping the Bluetooth open at all times can drain the battery of any device quite fast). If you are not satisfied with the system’s default screen locking solutions, this app might get the job done.
