Soundplant is a streamlined audio tool for macOS created to enable you to play sounds just like playing a musical instrument with the help of your Mac’s keyboard.

Despite the fact that Soundplant doesn’t look like a macOS app, it features a straightforward user interface with an intuitive layout and, thus, getting to grips with it should be fairly easy.

All of Soundplant’s features, can be accessed through its main window, which is separated in three areas: a toolbar on the upper part, the keyboard input layout in the middle, while on the lower part you can find a sound customization toolbar.

To get started, you must assign a sound to each one of the 72 keyboard keys by either dragging and dropping, or via simple point and click actions.

A good thing to know is the fact that Soundplant comes with support for almost all audio file formats out there such as: .wav, .aif, .mp3, .mp4, .m4a, .aac, .flac, .wma, .alac, .wv, .ogg, .snd, .ape, and more.

Soundplant allows you to play sounds by pressing the designated keys even when it is minimized or hidden. Soundplant can play 256 sounds concurrently, not that you will ever need to.

Noteworthy is that Soundplant offers real time volume adjustments, panning configuration and pitch control for each one of the designated keys. Also, you can configure the reverb, lowpass, resonance figure, and LFO effects for each assigned sound.

Because configuring all of the 72 keys for Soundplant can take a while, the application enables you to save multiple keyboard configurations (.keymap files) by clicking the “Save Keymap” button located on the top toolbar.

With its impressive plethora of features its clear that Soundplant can be used as a straightforward and simple sound effect machine, an electronic instrument or as an educational aid.

Soundplant is a powerful sample board app and it's easy to understand why it has been on the market for more than 15 years, being used by various TV or radio shows because of its versatility and ease of use.

What's new in Soundplant 50.5.0:
