RealBeat is a straightforward Mac OS X audio processing application designed for recording, looping and cutting sounds and then creating rhythm tracks using them. In other words, you can use RealBeat as a sampler for creating loops and rhythms out of recorded sounds.
The application features a well-organized user interface split into different sections. It includes different panes for: recording multiple samples, sequencing the samples, modifying the sequences with patterns and for recording external sound.
In each sample pane, you can view the sound’s waveform, adjust the pitch, pan, volume and more. In addition to this, you can use various simple keyboard shortcuts to control the app; for instance, q-i to start sample, a-k to stop sample and 1-8 to record sample.
The sequencer is based on 16 different notes that you can click to activate. Moreover, the patterns help you make interesting note sequences based on several predefined patterns. What’s more, you can create, edit and delete patterns at your own free will.
RealBeat supports your Mac’s internal microphone as well as external sound interfaces to record sounds. As soon as you record it, you can quickly mix it into an interesting rhythm and, with more tweaking, create samples ready to be added into songs. As a bonus option, you can export your tracks as iPhone ringtones.
For the most part, RealBeat is a creative OS X application with a simple workflow that allows you to produce samples and rhythms with great ease. Sounds can be looped, modified in diverse ways and included in a sequencer.
