Effect plug-in that emulates the sound of primitive signal processing hardware. #Effect plug-in #Signal processing hardware #Make aliasing noise #Effect #Plug-in #Audio
Permut8 is an audio effect plug-in which provides the sounds of primitive signal processing hardware. The main aspect of Permut8 is a 12-bit digital delay with variable sample rate from 0 to 352 khz.
The delay is controlled by a programmable processor that allows you to change and modulate the delay time with various "operators". The input and output stages offers virtual analog components for saturation, limiting and filtering. The sound of Permut8 is raw and complex but noisy and warm at the same time.
With Permut8 we have made a serious effort to make a plug-in that feels and sounds like a piece of physical digital hardware and not like your typical software effect.
Permut8 can make aliasing noises that would make any Commodore 64 green of envy, but its aliasing is different from what you normally encounter in software DSP. For example, it is unrelated to the host sample rate and you can tune it exactly with the "clock frequency" knob.
The components that should not alias, e.g. the "analog" saturation, employ heavy-duty anti-aliasing and oversampling techniques to avoid doing so. Permut8 has just the right dose of hiss, hum, distortion and unpredictability to make it come alive without sacrificing fidelity when you want it.
System requirements
- AU or VST host application (e.g. GarageBand, Logic, Live, Cubase)
- 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo or better
- 25 MB of free disk space
Limitations in the unregistered version
- For evaluation purposes you are allowed to try it for up to three weeks with full functionality.
- The trial begins the first time you open the app in your host sequencer and it only subtracts weeks from the trial time when you actually use it.
What's new in Permut8 1.1:
- The first version of Permut8 that officially supports "alternative firmwares" (although preliminary support was there in version 1.0 already). Alternative firmwares expands the functionality of Permut8 with entirely new DSP algorithms that you load into Permut8 simply by opening a special file type. The firmware code runs in a virtual CPU that is completely isolated from your native processor and cannot crash your host. Furthermore the actual DSP code is stored in your song files, so you will never need to keep track of which version of which firmware you used for a particular project. It will just work. Forever. And it will always sound exactly the same.
- A suite of alternative firmwares is available to download for registered customers (again free of charge) from our download page. Included firmwares are: Beatrick, Bender, BitBox, Mozaik, Reciter, Pong and RingMod.
- Apart from this, Permut8 now supports undo / redo, bouncing to WAV file and much more.
