Play a large array of audio files, edit and read their tags on your Mac with the help of this open source and cross-platform VLC based audio player. #Music player #Tag editor #Manage music library #Player #Editor #Library
With the fast and reliable VLC engine at its core, Miam Player is a cross-platform and open source music player that works on OS X, Windows, Linux. Having said that, here’s what this audio player has to offer and what it can't.
Firstly, you should know that Miam Player works great on OS X: it’s fast, stable, doesn’t fuss and doesn’t hang whatsoever. It came as a bit of a surprise, but Miam Player fully supports drag and drop gestures from the Finder onto its player, and also from and to its built-in file explorer.
What’s more, Miam Player comes with support for a large array of audio formats such as MP3, MP4, FLAC, OGG, OGA, ASF, APE, and others. The Miam Player app makes it as simple as possible for you to keep your music organized and your libraries in tip top shape with the help of its Tag Editor.
Other than that, Miam Player bundles other common features that can be found on almost all other audio players, so we won’t go further into detail.
While until now Miam Player has a lot going for it, we inevitably have to say something about its interface. Once you start the application, the library will be automatically updated, and you will be greeted by an old-school interface. Yes, you have probably guessed by now that Miam Player isn’t what you would call a head-turner.
The interface feels so outdated that it not only feels unworthy of OS X, but unworthy of the other two supported operating systems as well. There is an upside though: Miam Player enables you to customize almost every element of its interface.
Talking about cutting the losses, Miam Player bundles an impressive collection of customization features and options. You can basically change everything from the buttons and bars, font, colors, to how the library looks until everything is tailored to your taste.
Also noteworthy is Miam Player’s General Options menu, that makes it possible for you to fine-tune the app’s behavior for a wide variety of situations or choose from a small collection of languages.
While Miam Player won’t fit everyone’s taste, mainly because its user interface does not follow Apple's OS X Human Interface Guidelines, there’s no getting around the fact that it is one of the most versatile open source and cross-platform audio players out there.
With future development plans for implementation of features like visualizations, a Spotify and Soundcloud streaming plug-in and a useful 10-band equalizer, Miam Player is on its path to becoming a much better audio player.
