Security and privacy are major concerns when it comes to using a computer and navigating online. Avast Security is a security solution designed to protect you against different types of malware attacks.

The latest built-in security tools in macOS are designed to help you limit the threat by installing only apps that have been downloaded via the App Store, and more, only the ones that have been signed by identified developers.

However, not all Mac software is included in the Apple Store so, if you want to explore outside the limits, having a reliable security solution is essential.

Avast Security comes with its own installer, which makes the installation extremely straightforward. Moreover, the archive also includes an uninstalling utility which should be used if you want to properly remove the antivirus (can also be activated via the main menu).

The app will place a menu in your status bar (it can be disabled via the Preferences) in order to provide quick access to its main window, to the Preferences, to the Shield Statistics or to your latest notifications.

By default, Avast Security comes with the File System, Mail, and Web shields enabled, but you can easily disable or customize their behavior.

At the same time, the installer places extensions in your Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. You can uninstall them, but the components are required if you want Avast Security to protect you against phishing and malware websites.

Of course, the app is also able to perform various types of scans in order to detect viruses: Full System Scan, Removable Volumes Scan, Home Scan or Custom Scan. Last but not least, it can display update notifications, warnings, alerts, or info panels.
