If you don't want to wait until Google adds support for picture-in-picture mode in their official YouTube app, there is a solution to get it early by installing Homegrown Software Ltd's YouPlayer app on your iOS 9-powered iPad, as first discovered by some Reddit users.

As described on the YouPlayer's iOS App Store page, it is an unofficial YouTube client application designed to work on Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, with a minimum requirement of iOS 6.0 or later.

YouPlayer can be used to browse and search YouTube, as well as play the videos you find, using any of the video quality levels available.

In the latest update, YouPlayer comes with support for the new iOS 9 multitasking feature, picture-in-picture being the main highlight and the feature requested by a large majority of the official YouTube iOS application.

Furthermore, YouPlayer 1.7 also comes with a new dark mode designed to help users watch YouTube videos in low light conditions, and a re-designed comments system.

The new YouPlayer version also fixes an issue that previously prevented users from forcing landscape playback on iPhone devices and bundles a number of other bug fixes that should make the app even more stable.

You can install YouPlayer 1.7 via its iOS App Store page, and once available on your device's Home Screen, you will be able to enjoy YouTube with the new picture-in-picture mode added by Apple in iOS 9, even though Google's official app does not yet support them.
