After having announced it back in April this year, Apple TV is now offering its US users access to Showtime for $10.99 per month.

Initially planned for release on July 12, the service arrives 5 days earlier than expected and also comes with a 30-day trial period, during which new users can watch all their favorite shows for free.

As announced, Showtime TV shows can be watched without a classic cable subscription, and there's also a new site that goes with the new service, along with an iOS app that works with iPhones and iPads.

Currently, Showtime is exclusively distributed via Apple TV, but Hulu, Vue (PlayStation), and Roku TV will also pick it up in the following months.

Compared to HBO Now, which charges $15 per month, Showtime is currently cheaper but also has a smaller collection of shows, but of no lesser quality by any means.

Showtime's library includes some pretty big names like "Homeland," "Ray Donovan," "Dexter," "Masters of Sex," "Californication," "House of Lies," "Shameless," "Weeds," "Penny Dreadful," "The Tudors," "The Borgias," "Nurse Jackie," "Queer As Folk," "Episodes," "Inside Comedy," "The Affair," "Happyish," "Web Therapy," "The United States of Tara," "The American Life," "60 Minutes Sports," and "The Real L Word."
