By year’s end, Apple will have passed a new historic milestone

In a few months from now expect another pompous press release from Apple regarding the number of apps available on the iTunes Store.

With all the news surrounding iOS 7, OS X Mavericks, and the new Macs unveiled at WWDC, it’s hardly a surprise that the following paragraph included in the iOS 7 press announcement didn’t get any attention from the media (emphasis ours).

With over 900,000 apps, the App Store is the world’s largest app marketplace. iOS 7 now features Popular Apps Near Me, a new way to find apps based on your current location, and iOS 7 will automatically keep your apps up to date.”

Then again, it’s also true that it has become somewhat irrelevant to continue counting. Just like McDonald’s and their gazillion burgers sold. In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, “We get it! You sold A LOT of hamburgers!”

But it’s also appropriate for Apple to mark the 1 million apps with a proper announcement (maybe even one of those fancy countdown contests), and you can expect that number to be reached by year’s end.
