Here’s a troublesome thing I discovered this past weekend. The power management problems that come either with iOS 8 or with the iPhone 6 Plus are no longer just a hunch of mine. They’re real and they’re very worrisome.
I went out fishing this weekend, but I’d forgotten to juice up my iPhone 6 before hitting the great outdoors. The lake area had good coverage (I was fishing in the city), so this didn’t pose a problem for my phone’s life expectancy that day. However, after taking a bunch of photos and slo-mos, I was left with a 9 percent charge.
So I put the phone in Airplane mode and went back to fishing. Two or three minutes later, I got a text message. When I unlocked the device to read it, boom! the screen went pitch black and the phone powered off. This is not the first time it’s happened since the release of iOS 8 in September, and I suspect it has something to do with the software, rather than the hardware.
This is the third iPhone I’ve experienced this with. One was a 5, the other was a 6, and the third occurrence was with the iPhone 6 Plus I’m currently using as my primary device. It’s become evident that iOS 8 suffers from a severe power management issue. It’s extremely worrisome considering you can’t rely on the power meter gauging the amount of you juice you have left.
