Sample re-calibration code available for developers on Github

RealityCap, the company that dissected Apple’s accelerometer problems with the iPhone 5s, has come up with a calibration code (available for developers on Github), to fix the issue.

In a recent report, RealityCap revealed that a design flaw in the Bosch-manufactured accelerometer found in Apple’s iPhone 5s was causing apps like racing games to register inaccurate input from the user. Same goes for level apps, compass apps, and pretty much any piece of software that relies on the phone’s ability to sense movement and orientation.

While Apple will undoubtedly come to the rescue with a patch in the upcoming iOS 7.0.3 or iOS 7.1, RealityCap wouldn’t wait and is offering some code to developers looking to re-optimize their apps to better take advantage of the accelerometer in the iPhone 5s.

The RealityCap post is an interesting read, so I suggest you pay them a visit to see what they have to say about this problem. Also, if you’re a developer and are looking to employ that code, do note that there are some caveats to be taken into consideration. One of them being that it can actually make the situation worse if the re-calibration doesn’t succeed.
