Foxconn will reduce weekly output of iPhone 5c, will focus more on 5s model

Apple has reportedly ordered Foxconn to stop producing so many iPhone 5c units, and begin focusing on iPhone 5s production with all its workforce. Apparently the plastic iPhone is in low demand.

It looks like Apple customers don’t necessarily prefer cheap versions of the iPhone, but rather the higher-specced models, despite their being more expensive.

DigiTimes reports that Foxconn Electronics, Apple’s device assembler in the Far East, has halted iPhone 5c production at one of its plants in Zhengzhou, northern China.

The reason? “[To] shift the capacity to iPhone 5s,” industry sources said. Foxconn (obviously) declined to comment on the matter, while China’s ctechcn.com reports that “Foxconn will not stop production of iPhone 5c but will reduce weekly output slightly,” according to the same Taiwanese publication.

The report also notes that both Foxconn and Pegatron have steadily reduced their iPhone 5c yield rates as Apple lowered orders “due to unsatisfactory sales,” the same sources said.
