Apple’s iPhone 5S is set to make its triumphant debut later today, delivering some much-needed innovation in the way we unlock our home screens by means of a “touch ID sensor.”

That’s the nomenclature chosen by Apple to designate the phone’s fingerprint sensor in the booklet boxed inside (image via Nowhereelse.fr).

Pictured above is a snap from one of the pages where Apple describes the ports and connectors fitted on the iPhone 5S, including the Sleep/Wake button, the Volume buttons and mute switch, the Lightning connector, and the Home button, which doubles as a “Touch ID sensor,” according to the manual.

Interestingly, the manual doesn’t seem to mention the presence of a jack (headphone) plug.

Hours ago, the Wall Street Journal also confirmed the existence of the fingerprint sensor through its own knowledgeable sources. The iPhone 5S will be the only new iPhone to sport the hardware, the paper said. Apple will unveil its iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C later today, at 10AM Pacific.
