Storage configurations likely to stay in place at 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Sources in the US retail chain who are familiar with the iPhone 5 are saying that the next-generation smartphone from Apple will be priced identically to its predecessor. The device launching at Apple’s September 12 media event is codenamed “N42.”

The N42 dubbing is in line with 9to5mac’s reporting of a taller version of the iPhone back in May. The site reported at the time that this prototype hardware carried a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels crammed inside a four-inch display (measured on the diagonal). The latest hardware leaks have confirmed that those specifications are accurate.

As expected, Apple will be replacing the iPhone 4S with its new iPhone 5 as the flagship smartphone sold by the company at exactly the same price-per-storage-capacity as before.

Mark Gurman says, “We also understand that this new iPhone N42 will come in the same prices as the iPhone 4S.” The configurations are likely to remain at the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities, 9to5 speculates.
