It appears Apple has decided to place its rumored NFC chip on the actual display assembly of the next-generation iPhone.

The next-generation iPhone is said to boast a number of relocated components, including the front-facing camera and proximity sensor, as well as the headphone jack.

In doing these alterations, the iPhone maker has also included what is believed to be an NFC chip with the phone’s display assembly.

Japanese blog Macotakara says the square part covered by EMI shielding (highlighted above) looks an awful lot like the NFC packages currently available on the market.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a fledging technology that can allow devices like the iPhone to securely conduct transactions. Apple has hundreds of millions of iTunes accounts with credit cards on file just waiting to be tapped.
