As rumors continue to swirl regarding a potential loss of interest in the iPhone 5, Verizon has released the earnings for its fourth fiscal quarter of 2012, seemingly confirming that Apple’s latest smartphone model isn’t doing as great as expected.

According to GigaOm, Verizon sold 7.3 million 4G/LTE smartphones in the last three months of 2012, activating almost 10 million smartphones. Of that number, 6.2 million were iPhones.

Around half of those iPhones were iPhone 5 units, according to the report, lending credence to rumors that Apple’s newest smartphone is losing its oomph.

Apple has scheduled a conference call for tomorrow to disclose its earnings for the first fiscal quarter of 2013. The figures about to be released tomorrow by Apple will act as the final missing piece in this puzzle, confirming or contradicting the reported rumors.
