It’s no secret that Apple is working on a new iPad version, but while the company remains completely tight-lipped on this project, analysts keep talking about the device and its features.

According to a new report released by Taiwanese research firm TrendForce and published by BGR, the new iPad is expected to hit shelves in the third quarter of this year and is very likely to feature significant improvements in both design and hardware areas.

TrendForce analyst Eric Chiou says that iPad 5 is likely to “apply the thin GF2 touch module of the same level as iPad mini and use the narrow bezel panel design to solve the issue of larger volume, thickness, and weight.”

In addition, if these reports prove to be true, Apple will completely retire iPad 2 once the new version makes its public debut in order to focus all its efforts on the newer slates.
